Proving anything can happen when the playoffs come around, PING pro Heath Slocum shocked the golf world with a one-shot victory at The Barclays. His final round 67 earned him the title over four players, including the world’s No. 1 player. He collected $1,350,000 for the win.
As the second to last player to qualify for the event, Slocum teed it up at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, New Jersey hoping for a solid week that would advance him to the next round of the playoffs. Instead, with the Statue of Liberty visible in the background, the 35-year-old Atlanta resident holed a 20-foot par putt on the final hole to move to No. 3 in the standings—assuring himself spots in the final three playoff events, including the Tour Championship in his hometown.
Now a three-time PGA Tour winner, Slocum entered the final round four shots behind the leaders. A birdie on the second hole and an eagle on the par 4 5th hole, where he holed out with his i15 7-iron from 157-yards, earned him a share of the lead that he would hold or share the rest of the way. After making the turn three-under for the day, he added eight pars and a birdie on the final nine holes to finish at 9-under for the week.
He played the new G15 driver, i15 irons (4-9, PW), a Tour-W wedge and a Redwood Anser putter. He put the new irons in his bag at last week’s Wyndham Championship.
