For all the birdies (16) and eagles (2) PING pro Lorena Ochoa made during the week, it was a string of eight straight pars that made the difference as she won her seventh event of the year at the Navistar LPGA Classic. Entering the final round tied for the lead with fellow PING pro Louise Friberg, Ochoa parred her final six holes in regulation and two in a three-way playoff to claim the $210,000 first-place check. Her winning par putt came from two feet to secure her 24th career title.
Ochoa’s 15-under-par total came on rounds of 67-67-69-70 at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail Capitol Hill’s Senator Course in Prattville, Alabama. Her winner’s share moved her season earnings over the $2.5 million mark and further strengthened her position atop the LPGA money list.
Since taking over the #1 world ranking position in April of 2007, the 26-year-old native of Guadalajara, Mexico has won 14 times on the LPGA Tour, including two major championships. As she has in every event this season, Ochoa played 14 PING clubs, including a Rapture driver, 5-wood and hybrid, a G10 3-wood, S58 irons, Tour wedges and a Redwood ZB putter.
