A final round hole-in-one helped lift PING pro Miguel Angel Jimenez to a play-off victory at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth in England. The 44-year-old Spaniard birdied the second extra hole to claim his second win of the season and 15th of his career.
Jimenez, a two-time Ryder Cup participant, moved to first in the European points list for this year’s match at Valhalla GC in Louisville, Kentucky and 41st in the world rankings. He also sits atop the European Tour Order of Merit with more than $2.6 million in winnings.
After birdies on the third and fourth holes, the 20-year European Tour veteran vaulted into the lead by holing a PING S59 4-iron shot on the 187-yard 5th hole. From there, he battled to a closing round of 68 to earn a spot in the playoff. On the second playoff hole, the par 5 18th, he reached the green in two and two-putted for birdie to claim the first place prize of nearly $1.2 million.
Jimenez’ four-round total of 11-under-par came on rounds of 70-67-72-68 over the Wentworth Club. He played a PING Rapture Driver, TiSI Tec Fairway Woods, S59 Irons, Tour-W Wedges and a Redwood Anser putter.
